Nigeria Will Launch Its First Indigenous Satellite By 2018 – Bulama

0

Abuja – According to The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Abdu Bulama, Nigeria is set to launched its indigenous satellite in 2018.

Bulama stated this when he inspected facilities at the Obasanjo Space Centre of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA).

The minister said the centre had the mandate to launch Nigeria’s first indigenous satellite by 2018, and described space science and technology programme as an important component of the Nigerian dream.

According to him, the satellite programme has a very positive role to play in the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

Bulama directed that the assembly, testing and integration centre, and the Synthetic Aperture Rader Satellite, which are under construction, be completed by 2015.

“The Assembly, Testing and Integration Centre, and the Synthetic Aperture Rader Satellite are the nucleus of NASRDA.

“It is here that we will, by the grace of God, launch our first made in Nigeria satellite by 2018.
“By 2018, by the grace of God, we want to see made-in-Nigeria satellite launched. It will be built in this laboratory and launched by our Nigerian scientists,” he said.

According to him, competence and capabilities in satellite technology serve as tool for national growth and a huge contribution to the development and benefit of mankind.

Earlier, the Director-General of NASRDA, Dr Seidu Mohammed, who conducted Bulama round the facilities, said the agency could boast of world-class technology in term of facilities.

Mohammed said that the about six million U.S. dollars (about N1 billion) annual budgetary allocation to NASRDA was inadequate, given the huge development expected of the agency.

The director-general also said that no serious country allocates less than 100 million U.S. dollars to its space agency.

According to him, NASRDA pays N1.6 million monthly to an Israeli company to maintain facilities at one of the centres of the agency, and also spends 100 pounds servicing its two dishes.

He said the Emergency Management Project of the agency could be used in tracking kidnapped victims, car theft, pipeline vandalisation, fire outbreak, flood and accidents.

Why you need to Favour Airtel’s Android Data Plans Over their Blackberry Bundles.

0
NIGERIA – Towards the tail end of last month, Airtel busted out with a new data plan. This time, a plan specially dedicated to Android and smartphone devices. While the prices may seem a bit harsh compared to that of Blackberry devices, there are a lot of positives to be drawn from the new invention.

It is no longer a secret that official Airtel Blackberry plans now fully works on other devices including Android devices. With the recent introduction of the Android internet data plans at the dead end of July, the position of Blackberry 2+1 packages among Aitel users is threatened. However, few are yet to find a reason to ditch their fair internet plan for a more expensive plan. – Well, let’s find you a reason.
We are not going to make this yet another dumb Android vs Blackberry comparison, rather, you can see this as EwtNet’s way of bringing your attention to the distinctive features of the new Airtel’s Android data plan.

Behold, all you Android Lovers

For most Nigerians, Android is the new Tecno which for many represent intense data consumption. The new Airtel Android plans are specially design to suit this purpose. The bundle gives you an option to choose either the 2GB or 4.5GB worth N2,000 and N3,500 respectively.

Of course, you can argue that Blackberry 2+1 packages offers better but here is the thing, Blackberry 2+1 plans if used on Blackberry devices goes on 1 kobo/kb but on other devices the charges rates up to 5 kobo/kb, which is why your data depletion will often run faster on Android devices when you subscribe to the Blackberry 2+1 packages.

How the new Android plans rate

A lot of Android users will find the new Android plans feasible for many reasons but mainly because of the rate at which their data burns down. For a standard user, your bandwidth depletes at the rate of 1.5 kobo/kb but if you found yourself using the internet more in the night, you are likely to find your data depletion rate at 1 kobo/kb from 9:59pm – 5:59am.

What options do we have on dongle?

If you are accessing the web through a dongle or internet modem and the *440*161# thing works for your then I ‘d say “Who needs Android plans?” but if you are not eligible for Airtel Blackberry 2+1 offers then I advice you stick with any of the Android plans.

0
Yesterday Paypal included Nigeria and 9 other countries to the list of Paypal supported countries following the story of Rupert Keeley, the executive in charge of the EMEA region of PayPal, in an interview on Monday.

Paypal is a global online payment processor which has over 230 million users in 203 countries, arguably the largest and most accepted payment gateway in the world. Paypal has long being the nightmare of Nigerian internet marketers, bloggers, affiliate programs and the general market at large.

Starting from yesterday, 17 June, 2014 Nigerians will be eligible to sign up for a free Paypal accounts legally. No change of IP is required – just come the way you are!

In four easy steps, I will guide you on how to setup and verify your very own Paypal account right from your computer, right now!

Requirements

To get started, make sure you have a working PC/Mac that can access the internet, a reliable browser; any of Firefox or Google Chrome will do just fine and finally, make sure you are not accessing the web through a different location (other than Nigeria) or through a proxy connection.

Step 1 – Getting Started

Simply hop in to www.paypal.com, you can type that to your browser address bar or simple click on the link from here. Follow the Sign Up link, that should land you to a page similar to the image you are looking at above. Now, if for some reasons your country or region isn’t set to Nigeria, kindly select Nigeria from the select menu.

When your country or region is set, choose an account type that best suit your online transaction. You can choose from either Individual or Business account. So, I will go ahead and click Open an account from the Individual box.
** To open a business account you will need to provide information such as your business name, business address and type of business.

Step 2 – Tell Paypal about yourself

If you did the right thing, you should be seeing a page requesting your information in front of your screen. Kindly fill the form with your original details and click Agree and Create Account button just at the footer of the form.

Step 3 – Verify that you are a Human

In this page you  have to re-assure Paypal that you are a human being by entering the code on that page into the small box right-top of the code. You have to type this code exactly the way it appeared on that page. When done, click continue to finally setup your account.

The next page will bring up a form to enter your card details. We will have to skip that part for now. So simply click Go to My Account and enjoy the feel of your brand new Paypal account.

Right now, your Paypal account is as useless as not having a Paypal account. So you may want to go right to you email inbox, locate and open the “Welcome to PayPal ” email sent to you by Paypal (Note: This can never be in your spam folder, beware of phishing links) and click on the Link Now button. Enter your Paypal  password (The one you used on the registration page) on the next page and hit Verify Email to proceed and add your card.

Step 4 – Verify your Paypal Account

To verify your account, kindly go to your Paypal account dashboard and click on the Get Verified Link just below your name.

Enter your card details in the next page and hit the Continue button. After you click Continue, Paypal will charge the card $1.95 USD to make sure it’s yours. This fee will be refunded to you within 24 hours from the time your card has been confirmed.

Could it be more easier? I doubt it! Try it out and share your experiences on the comment section.

Official: Paypal Storms Nigeria – How Real is it?

0

Giving in to the popular “419 Scammers” tag, Paypal labeled Nigerians not too long ago, only few will believe the story of Rupert Keeley, the executive in charge of the EMEA region of PayPal, in an interview on Monday.

According to a report posted on Reuters yesterday, Keeley made an official reference in an interview on Monday regarding the expansion of Paypal payment services to 10 more countries including Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria. He stressed that the expansion would bring the number of countries it serves to 203, making it one of the most used global payment gateway besides it’s nemesis, Master Card Inc.

Following the protest led by Nigerian tech bloggers and marketers via the Twitter hashtag #PayPalNigeria, Paypal has included Nigeria, which has 60 million users, along with nine other markets in sub-Saharan Africa, Eastern Europe and Latin America in their list of supported countries, starting from today.

“PayPal has been going through a period of reinvention, refreshing many of its services to make them easier to use on mobile (phones), allowing us to expand into fast-developing markets,” Keeley said.

How real is it?

Although, customers in the shortlisted 10 countries with access to the Web and a bank card authorized for Internet transactions will be able to register for a PayPal account and make payments to millions of sites worldwide, once the services goes live. The residents of this countries are set to endure a difficult start to life with Paypal.

Giving the fraudulent reputation carried by this countries in the past, Paypal is likely to limit the functionality of this freshers to only “send money” services for consumers to pay for goods and services at PayPal-enabled merchant sites while safeguarding their financial details. This is free to consumers and covered by fees it charges merchants.

“We think we can give our sellers selling into this market a great deal of reassurance,” said Keeley, a former regional banking executive with Standard Chartered Plc and senior executive with payment card company Visa Inc.

PayPal does not yet cover peer-to-peer transactions, which allow consumers to send money to other consumers. It has not yet enabled local merchants in the new markets to receive payments, nor is it offering other forms of banking services, he said.

Despite the suspicion that the coming of this countries may increase the level of fraudulent activities such as ID theft, social engineering, phishing and automated harvesting of customer financial data via botnets, or networks of computers controlled by hackers. Inengisa Hart, founder of Nigeria Entertainment Forum Guruscoded is certain that the days of internet fraud is a thing of the past for his country.

“The cameo of Paypal will provide online payment alternatives for consumers via mobile phones or PCs in the Nigerian market”

“Firstly, I would start by saying it’s a good thing having Paypal here in Nigeria. But the introduction of Paypal in Nigeria creates an advantage and disadvantage.

For us the consumers, their would be lesser budget made, easy transactions, quick offers made from international companies, more online business opportunities, e.g Most ads network that has Paypal as it’s only payment gateway.

It’s coming may also affect some payment gateways in Nigeria, who has benefited from Paypal’s absence in the past.” Said Inengisa in an interview yesterday.

“Nigeria markets has often been blighted by financial fraud allegation. But it is all in the past.

Actually, Paypal is a company with a very strong security system. So talking about the fraudulent reputation by Nigerians, it’s a No go area.” He concluded.

A total of 80 million Internet users stand to gain access to PayPal global services this week, including those in five European markets – Belarus, Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco and Montenegro, four in the African nations of Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Zimbabwe, as well as Paraguay. Internet usage figures are based on research by Euromonitor International.

PayPal counts 148 million active accounts worldwide.

Last week, MasterCard Inc, the world’s second-largest debit and credit card company, and a PayPal rival in payment processing, said it was working with the Nigerian government on a pilot to overlay payment technology on a new national identity card.

PayPal has operated in 190 markets since 2007 and added three countries – Egypt, Georgia and Serbia last year. Roughly a quarter of the $52 billion in payment volumes PayPal reported in the first quarter of 2014 were for cross-border transactions. PayPal reported $1.8 billion in revenue during the period.

  • Your airtime balance must be less than or equal to N12 before you can request for an extra time.
  • You will be charged 10% of every amount you borrow (i.e N5 from every N50 you loan from MTN).
  • If you have a negative credit balance (e.g –N50), corresponding amount will be deducted on your next recharge.
To start loaning from MTN or check your eligibility status, simply dial *606# and follow the menu options.
