Nigerian Passport Application in 2024

Nigeria has officially launched its long-awaited Passport Automation System. The Nigerian Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo revealed that the recent updates made to the passport application portal were in a bid to improve the Nigerian passport application process. The automated system was designed to help Nigerians apply for and complete their passport application process entirely online, without the need for in-person interactions. Apart from biometrics and passport pick-up, there is minimal need for Nigerian applicants to visit the immigration office for either passport application or renewal.

How to Apply for a Nigerian passport

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to easily apply for your Nigerian passport from wherever you are.

NIN Verification on the Passport Application Portal

  • Visit the official website at https://track.immigration.gov.ng/.
  • Enter and verify your NIN alongside your date of birth.
  • Enter the 4-digit Captcha provided.
  • Your data will be generated upon valid NIN verification.

Select Passport Booklet Type and Processing Office

  • After NIN verification, proceed to choose your Passport Type and preferred processing/collection state and office.
  • Note the reference number generated during the process for tracking purposes.

Upload Passport Photograph/Fill in Your Details

  • Upload a passport photo with dimensions of 600×800 pixels and a white background.
  • Enter details such as marital status, occupation, and email.
  • Note that certain details like names, date of birth, state of origin, and sex cannot be edited; contact NIMC for changes.

Submit Your Contact Information/Next of Kin

  • Provide your address, local government, email address, hometown, postal code, phone number, and other relevant information.
  • Enter details of your next of kin, including name, address, and phone number.

Upload Legitimacy Documents

  • For this stage, upload essential documents like the Birth Certificate from the National Population Commission Declaration of Age from the High Court, and the Local Government Certificate of Indigeneship.
  • If you hold dual nationality, upload the data page of your Non-Nigerian passport.
  • Confirm the authenticity and readability of the provided documents.
  • Make the necessary payment and reserve a biometrics capture date.
  • Retain the reference number for tracking your passport application/production status.

Note: Applicants can confirm document authenticity, make payments, reserve biometrics capture dates, and track application/production status through the online portal. The passport booklet fee will be automatically generated in USD, depending on the chosen number of pages for the passport booklet type.
