How to Immigrate to Canada from Nigeria

0

Nigeria was the fourth country of origin for immigrants to Canada in 2019, with a total of 12,600 Nigerians who became permanent residents that year alone. As a permanent resident of Canada, you can live and work anywhere in the country and enjoy access to free health and social care, as well as an excellent quality of life filled with more amenities. and employment opportunities.

So how do you migrate to Canada from Nigeria? The first step is to decide where you want to live in Canada and then find a visa program that is right for you. Here are the five most popular ways to come to Canada from Nigeria!

How Canadian Immigration Works

Canada has over 100 visa and immigration options available and some of these programs are points-based and select the highest-rated applicants for permanent residence in Canada while others are employer-driven, which means you have to get a job in Canada as the main requirement. In addition, Nigerians with training and work experience in Canada are eligible for even more immigration programs.

Why are Nigerians so successful in moving to Canada? Well, it can have a lot to do with your fluency in English, your hardworking nature, and your graduate studies. Find out if you can immigrate to Canada and which program you qualify for with our comprehensive assessment.

5 Ways to Move to Canada from Nigeria

1. Get an Invitation to Apply (ITA) through Express Entry

The Express Entry system is the primary route of immigration for skilled Nigerian workers who wish to live and work in Canada. The goal is to obtain an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence through Express Entry which operates on a points grid known as the Comprehensive Classification System (CRS).Advertisements

How Can You Get an ITA?

Applicants for Express Entry are graded based on criteria such as their age, years of work experience, language proficiency, and level of education, among other criteria. The highest-rated applicants receive the ITA in the bi-weekly Express Entry raffle rounds. There are a few other things you can do to improve your score, like getting a job offer in Canada or earning a provincial nomination that equals 600 CRS points! Learn more about it below.

How Long Does it Take to Process Express Entry Applications?

Express Entry is one of the fastest ways to immigrate to Canada from Nigeria with application processing times of just six months.

2. Achieve a Provincial Nomination (PN)

Where do you want to live in Canada? Canada is extremely large and has 13 provinces and territories, 11 of which administer their own provincial immigration programs. There are approximately 80 programs among the participating provinces! Canada aims to welcome between 64,000 and 81,500 immigrants through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs)

If you get a provincial appointment, you can apply for permanent residence in Canada from Nigeria and settle in the province that appointed you.

How Does the Provincial Nominee Program Work?

PCPs are designed based on the economic needs of the province or territory. For example, the New Brunswick Provincial Nomination Program (PNBNP) welcomes qualified and intermediate foreign workers with a particular emphasis on truckers and Francophones. It is worth noting that some PNPs require applicants to have valid work experience, education, or employment offers in their jurisdiction.

You can apply directly to a PNP or you can send an expression of interest to the province looking for someone with your skills through your Express Entry profile.

3. Study in Canada to Qualify for a Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)

Studying in Canada on a student visa does not lead directly to permanent residence, but it is an effective stepping stone that can greatly improve your chances of success upon graduation. As mentioned above, obtaining a Canadian qualification such as a certificate, diploma or degree counts in your favor as it trumps foreign credentials in your immigration application.

To top it off, if you are studying an eligible program that lasts longer than eight months in Canada, you may be eligible for a graduate work permit that allows you to stay and work anywhere in the country to gain experience. work after your studies. Canadian work experience and education are the ideal formulae for obtaining permanent residence in Canada from Nigeria.

Looking for an affordable way to study in Canada? Speak to our student advisors for inexpensive short courses that are also PGWP approved.

4. Work in Canada as a Farmworker or Caregiver

Canada has a constant demand for agricultural workers and caregivers and welcomes foreign workers in these occupations to work in Canada through special work permit programs. Canada is the second-largest country in the world with an equally large agricultural sector employing approximately 2.3 million people, the majority of whom are seasonal foreign agricultural workers. On the other hand, Canada has an aging population that is in need of care and assistance.

The good news is that your working time in Canada can lead to a permanent future in the Far North. If you have worked in the country in a qualifying agricultural or caregiver position, you can apply to immigrate to Canada from Nigeria through the Agri-Food Immigration Pilot Program and the Home Care Provider Pilot Program. All you need is about one to two years of Canadian work experience and a permanent job offer from your employer.

5. Obtain a Job Offer from a Designated Employer in Atlantic Canada

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot (AIP) is an employer-led program that you can apply to relocate to Canada from Nigeria and settle in any of the Atlantic Provinces which includes; New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. An insightful story of the life and travel experiences of a woman in search of everything across Italy, India, and Indonesia. 6 years into her marriage and she wants out; she didn’t want to be married anymore. She doesn’t want children. It’s surprising because at 31, what else could a woman with a husband and an amazing career want from life. She was waiting for the time when she will feel the need to have a baby but the need wasn’t there. They had been trying to have a baby for a while, right when it will materialize, she didn’t feel the need for it anymore. She was grateful each time she saw her period because she felt it was nature giving her more time. She continuously tells herself that it’s a normal feeling and nothing is wrong with her. When she met with an acquaintance who finally became pregnant after trying everything possible to get pregnant, she compared the joy on her acquaintance’s face to the joy she felt when she found out that the magazine she worked for was sending her to New Zealand to write an article. She just couldn’t relate to the woman’s joy in the same way because she wants more and having a baby and being married wasn’t part of it. She doesn’t want a baby at least till she feels the same joy she felt when she was told she will be going to New Zealand.

The whole idea of “wanting out” baffles her because she took part in all the decisions up to that point. With how fed up she was of the life she was lived, she wonders if she truly ever needed those things and it posed a lot of questions in her heart that she couldn’t answer. All she was sure of is that she wanted out. She didn’t want to be married anymore.

She loved her husband but couldn’t stand him anymore. They were always fighting. He knew something was wrong with her because she started acting strange but she wasn’t saying anything to him. She never shared any reason why she didn’t want to be married to her husband as she said they were personal and sad. However, her issues contributed to some of the reasons she wanted out and his issues contributed more to the reason she wanted out. Seated on the floor of her home at 3:00 am, as she has done every other night prior, she cries bitter and snorts all over and she prays to God because the decision she’s about to make will lead to a drastic change.

Sprawled on the ground amid the crisis she talked to God for the first time. Her description of God is really amazing as it is not the typical Man in the Sky or some other conventional or traditional religious acknowledgement of a personality in a particular place. She talked to him and introduced herself like she was speaking to someone at a cocktail party asking and begging him repeatedly to help her and tell her what do to. After she had cried for a while, she stopped abruptly. She noticed she stopped crying then she heard a voice. The voice spoke to her quite calmly and with compassion and it was her voice but this time different from what she sounds like. The voice told her to get up and go to bed. She felt the need to do as the voice requested because it felt like the right answer at the moment because nothing else would have been the right answer from God. She went back to bed and seven months later she goes through a very horrible divorce.

The divorce process didn’t go as planned. She thought it would end amicably but apparently her husband didn’t make it easy on her. The whole process was as horrible, and crude as most divorce cases always are. They make you see a side of your partner, you never knew existed. With how badly she wanted out of her marriage, one will think that she wanted out to be by herself. But that wasn’t the case. After she left her marriage she went right into another relationship with a David whom she fell in love with deeply as she said. They made goals, vows, promises, and dinner dates together.

She finally confirmed that her marriage was indeed over when she didn’t go back to her husband after a passenger hijacked plane crashed into a building in New York City and it was close to their home so it should’ve been a good reason to spend some time with her ex husband at least to mourn with thousands of people who lost loved ones and property.

She cried with him but never went back. It didn’t take long for her demons to come back then she lost control of her peace. She started crying again and this affected her relationship with David as he started drifting away from her due to her new emotional tantrums, and the more he drifted away the more she needed him more. She needed him desperately but she wasn’t the woman he knew anymore. She moved out of David’s when their relationship became rocky. It was like everything was going bad sequentially.

She needed to find herself, get herself to do things that she always wanted to do, and find peace. Elizabeth had always loved Italian. She wanted to learn how to speak Italian – a language she found more beautiful than roses. She registered to take classes. She would later travel to Italy and spend a few months to perfect her treasured language. While in Italy she made new friends.Outside learning a new language, she felt the need for spiritual discipline. Although this was triggered by the picture of David’s Indian guru; but it felt good when she joined David for their weekly meeting and she started meditating every other morning after that.

Elizabeth was given the opportunity to travel to Indonesia; experiences gathered in the course of the journey will form the content of an article she needs to write. There in Bali she met a clairvoyant who told her about herself and what she should expect of her future. Part of her future as foretold by this old spiritualist was that she would come back and live with him and learn from him. She actually did go back to Indonesia after she went to India and spent a couple of months in a spiritual home, practicing being a vegan, learning different chants and prayers and finally letting go of her heavy burden. A large part of the memoir explained vividly her experience in 3 different countries and how she found what she sought.

Born a Crime – A story from a South African childhood by Trevor Noah

0

The memoir centers on the early life of Trevor Noah. His days in South Africa before he moved to the US. Born toward the end of apartheid, he was able to paint a glimpse of what black South Africans went through in the hands of the white South Africans. Although he tried to insert humor here and there, the evil meted out on the black was revealed.

Trevor is the colored kid born by a black mother and a white father (swiss- German) in a time in South Africa when an Act was introduced stipulating an explicit description of what relationship should not be.

The Immorality Act of 1927 was enacted to prohibit any form of illicit carnal intercourse between Europeans and Natives.

This particular law punishable with imprisonment of up to five years was broken by his mother when she chose  Robert the tall Swiss man in room 206 to be the father of her child. It was unlawful for Trevors’ parents to be in a relationship, having a baby is evidence of law violated; so he was born a crime.

Mrs. Nombuyiselo Noah played a very strong role in Trevor’s life. A very religious, strong, and independent woman who did everything to survive in an era where people struggled to survive. She broke so many rules but was able to pull through. She was the stubborn member of the family who wanted to get away from the cycle of poverty and violence that came with being poor. She never wanted her son to end up like her or her family members.

She raised him differently and was very strict. She wanted her son to do well to avoid paying the black tax. She gave him a name different from what the normal South Africans would give, she made him read books, go to a good school, whip his ass when he did things that she thought would ruin the future she was preparing for him. Going by the biblical proverb that says “spare the rod and spoil the child”. She spared no rod and spoilt no child Trevor says; Mrs. Noah toiled to school her self in areas that gave her an edge over normal black people. Her resilience made her get a job in positions reserved for the white. The same resilience made her move from the poor living condition her mother could provide to hustle his way into a good neighborhood. She thought herself to be strong and avoided being a statistic. Her independence and her hustle Trevor got. She couldn’t do much considering what was obtainable and how limited opportunity was but she never made excuses. She found her way around it all. She raised a strong and independent man that will not follow the status quo. She gave birth to her child in a time where things were not going well like they should but she prepared him for the times when things will go back to normal.

Together with the knowledge instilled by his mother, Trevor found a way to survive as a colored kid but was bullied sometimes. He identified as black but he had to constantly prove himself as black most of the time. His multilingual skill made him survive almost always.

No matter how you claim not to see color, the situation of things forces you to choose sides every once in a while. This was seen a lot in the course of the book. Trevor being a smart kid found an away to survive. He loves his mother and everything that came with her but her religious life he still questioned every once in a while. Even when she survived the gunshot from Abel his stepfather he still questioned how she still believed in God amid everything he let happen to her But she was very religious and she saw a silver lining to everything.

Trevor was always the independent kid doing one or two side hustle to make his own money. He was always the latecomer when he was in grade school but he found a way to utilize the situation to make money. After assembly, he ran so fast to be the first on the line. When people noticed he always made it to the tuck shop first, they started giving him money to buy them snacks or food in exchange for stipends. The children had to do that because the queue was long and if they waited they would be out of food or snack on things they don’t really want.

Much later during his teenage age, he was able to make himself more money from selling mixtapes (boot-legged record). He and his friend were running the business together. He did the mix mixtape, Bongani had the selling skill. He could sell anything to anyone. From selling mixtape and selling stuff in the streets they formed a dance crew and Trevor became a DJ.

They made money but it wasn’t a lot or enough to do much. It was just enough to eat and they were days they ended up back at zero but he felt productive. Mbuyi as her husband Abel Called her was the very definition of strength but she suffered domestic violence from her husband Abel. Although she tried to stand up to him sometimes it was sad that with everything she had been through she ended in such sham of a relationship. Trevor liked Abel as a friend but was never okay when his mom told him they were getting married because he felt there was something sinister about him. He could find the words but his suspicion was later confirmed later when he started exhibiting traits. Mrs. Noah did everything within her power to help him out each he needed it but he always let drinking and his ego get the better of him.

Trevor’s mom had other children much later: Andrew and Isaac. Abel loved his children. He never treated Trevor badly but he never treated him like his son. It was quite easy for him to leave the house and fend for himself most especially when he could no longer handle the issues at home. His mom supported him but he checked on them when he could. The thought of his mom in such a horrible relationship made him sad and tried to convince her to leave but she refused because she was scared Abel will hurt her. When she finally left Abel indeed came for them but she was saved miraculously.

Born a crime is a beautiful piece and a must-read with a lot of themes embedded. The author used the simplest of grammar and is able to capture and sustain the reader. He has a way of making horrible situation look subtle. With his wonderful choice of grammatical expressions, he tells his tale in a very relatable and very impressive fashion.

It is a book to read!

Trust me, If you look for a more descriptive title for one of the latest Nigerian movies than the one above, then you will not find any. This story is about a husband and wife at war over the governorship seat. It is a perfect mix of drama, politics, and love. The couple is played by Omoni Oboli and Richard Mofe Damijo is one of the former’s best films to date.

The opening scene sets the tone for the rest of the movie. It starts with an aerial shot of a car driving through a winding bush path, while all that can be heard is the voice of a little girl singing an eerie Igbo folk song. When the car comes to a halt, the driver is revealed to be a man named Obinna Omego (played by Enyinna Nwigwe). He has driven his daughter to the middle of a forest with the promise of showing her a waterfall. He tells her to close her eyes in preparation for the surprise. When she does this, he beheads her. This sets up the move nicely for suspense and drama that will leave you reeling until the very end. Starring the legendary Ramsey Nouah, the film is also directed by him and produced by Steve Gukas, Dotun Olakunri, and Charles Okpaleke.

This is a touching movie that based on faith, with Biodun Stephen at the helm. The story is that of a Nigerian couple who cannot bear children and their faith is put to the test. The problems arise when everyone blames the husband. It received immense praise from critics with the cast including people like Blossom Chukwujekwu, Chris Iheuwa, and Enado Odigie.

Code Wilo: This interesting movie has a simple storyline about a South African politician in Nigeria with his children. Once he announces the gubernatorial candidacy of his daughter, she is kidnapped and the story builds around that. Expect to see actors like Bikiya Graham Douglas and Gbenga Titiloye.

This is also a political thriller that has a very big message and secretes unfolded in it. It shows the political system of Nigeria for the past twenty years in a sharp, clear, succinct, and fiery manner. Expect to be hooked just a few minutes into this latest Nollywood movies.
